Advanced Management

Welcome!

If you want to master the Art & Science of Management, you’ve come to the right place.
Every few years a new fad in management becomes the rage.

  • Books are published.

  • Lectures are given.

  • Seminars are filled.

The cycle repeats when a “new method” appears.

What is a thought leader, for example? Now, many people seek to become thought leaders by posing as one.

My experience, which now includes sixty years of supervision and management, suggests that there are proven methods that provide the foundation for developing strong and effective management, supervision and leadership. These have been proven over time, regardless of what ‘new’ items society and the economy throws at us.

These are simple to state and remember. However, the detail of execution requires more than this introduction.

Here are the key categories.

  1. Planning. This includes all categories of planning from what is known as strategy to operations.

  2. Organizing. This means that we have the space, materials, methods, equipment, and all other infrastructure  factors necessary to execute plans.

  3. Staffing. Easy?  Not necessarily. It means that we have the people with the traits and skills to accomplish the work we need done.

  4. Directing. We let our people know what we expect of them. We provide feedback on performance. We let them know that it makes a difference if they do or don’t perform.

  5. Controlling. We measure work, analyze how our systems perform, and we can adjust them to see that the enterprise functions according to plan. Or, we adjust. This includes financial management.

6. Coordinating. We assure that employees, departments and functions support each other.
